Title: The Digital Image
Invited: Parents and Children
Age - Middle School and High school
Summary: Parents and their children are invited to this afternoon retreat that will focus on maintaining our Orthodox Christian identity in the digital world. Parents will be given an in depth overview about social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and emerging mobile technologies like the iPhone that our Children and their friends are now using. Parents will learn about the new challenges that these services bring and the potential dangers mobile technologies pose. Parental controls and safeguards will be covered so that parents leave the session better prepared with the challenges they may face.
Children will have the opportunity to discuss social networks and emerging technologies and how, as Orthodox Christians, we should approach these and any new technology that arises.

Parents Session 1: Cover social networks, cyber bullying, mobile, and emerging technologies (60 minutes)

Youth Session 1: Explore the concept of symbols and identity through pop culture movies. What is our identity as Orthodox Christians? What symbols do we use to portray ourselves online and what do they say about us?

All Group Session 2: Parents and kids joint session: presentation and discussion of issues and attitudes of kids and parents in an attempt to use this as a way to promote and foster dialog after the sessions.
