MissionStatement

The Church of Our Saviour School is dedicated to providing a sound academic education in a stimulating and secure Orthodox Christian environment.  Each child is guided to develop spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically in order to realize his potential.

Philosophy

With the gift of life each child has within him/her vast potentiality.  Parents and teachers strive together for the highest possible development of the child in terms of his/her own skills and abilities, to impart to him/her an appreciation for the art of Orthodox Christian living, and to nurture within him/her the ability to reason and to think independently and creatively.  He/She will find his/her strengths to pursue his/her course with confidence.  In this way he/she will be empowered to take part in the vital decisions of his/her community and his country.

Curriculum

Curriculum for young children is complex.  At the Church of Our Saviour we have designed ours to foster emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual growth including the ability to reason and to think creatively and independently.  Our focus is:

-         on the safe, nurturing educational environment through supportive interactions between teacher, parents and caregivers.

-         to build a child’s self esteem through the master of physical, emotional, social and intellectual skills at each child’s own pace.

-        to provide each child with a warm, rich and  happy experience prior to kindergarten.

Learning is teacher-directed while allowing for the sharing of ideas and experiences.  The goal is to nurture the joy of discovery which may lead to a lifetime of enthusiasm for learning.

At Church of Our Saviour, we believe that this goal can best be achieved through a curriculum that incorporates the following units of study:

·       Religion

·       Language Arts

·       Mathematics

·       Science

·       Social Studies

·       Music

·       Art

·       Cooking

·       Greek Language

·       Kindergarten Preparation

The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour Pre-School is now accepting registration for the 2007/2008 school year.  Please call the school at (914) 967-1675 for more information or to receive our application.

Our pre-school, located in The Church of Our Saviour, proudly serves children ages 3 and 4.  We offer a 3-day-week or 5-day-week program from 9:00-12:00.  Extended day and computer classes are also available.
